FLU SHOWS UP EARLY IN MIDDLE TENNESSEE
The flu is showing up early this year... we've already had several cases of influenza here in Middle Tennessee, and doctors say this year's vaccine seems to be exactly what was needed, and it'll be effective. It's available now at the health department and your doctor PROBABLY has it, though you should call first. And remember, people o60 and older need to get the PNEUMONIA vaccine. Yes, there's a vaccine for that, and it may save your life.

METRO SCHOOL CHOICE FESTIVAL MONDAY AT FAIRGROUNDS
Leaders of Metro Nashville Public Schools learned their lesson about venues during the inaugural First Choice Festival. Last year, they tried to fit more than 5,000 people into McGavock High School's gym. They'd expected only 2,000 to show up at the event, which is geared toward putting parents and students together with representatives of nearly every public school in the district.

DOG DAY FESTIVAL SATURDAY
Now, the important question: does your dog have a cute new outfit for the weekend? Nashville's Dog Day Festival is tomorrow, 10 to 4 at Centennial Park. Its a fundraiser for the Nashville Humane Association, which finds homes for more than 3,100 dogs, cats and other pets each year. The money helps them carry on that mission.

CHRIS BOYD LET GO FROM VANDY TEAM
Vanderbilt University has kicked Wide Receiver Chris Boyd off the team, just days after he entered a conditional guilty plea for his role in trying to cover up the alleged rape of an unconscious student in late June. Boyd is still enrolled at Vandy as a student.
