TENNESSEE FREE COLLEGE BILL PASSES
What if EVERY high school graduate actually DID have a chance to go to college? We're closer to that, now. Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam's Tennessee Promise proposal has passed, and he's ready to sign it into law. Tennessee Promise tuitions would pay the rest of the tuition after all other funding sources are applied, so every high school graduate, starting next year, can attend a two-year college, and would have a personal mentor to help them get through it. The goal is to get graduation rates up, and more Tennesseans trained to actually DO something besides low-level, low-paying jobs. (Haslam wants to pay for the program with excess lottery money and a 47 million dollar endowment.) http://www.driveto55.org/tennessee-promise/
