PHOTOGRAPHER EXAMINES OUR OBSESSION WITH BEAUTY/PHOTOSHOPPING
A young Photography major is causing a stir with her latest class project, an expose on what's being done with photoshopping in ads and magazines. The 24-year-old did a series of self portraits that compares her, real life, side by side with pictures she photoshopped the heck out of. There's even one app that she says most women don't know about that makes your torso, arms and legs look longer and more model-like. She calls the project, "Beauty Is Only Pixel Deep," and posted it to Reddit this week. She says the response has been overwhelming, from women saying it helps them remember that we're not really as far from model-like as those magazines make us feel.
You may have noticed -- as you're bumping along to work this morning -- this winter weather has caused a bunch of new potholes in our roads. So you'll see road crews out everywhere the next few days trying to get those filled. Today, there's one lane of 40 East in Wilson county that's closed for road repair. Workers are fixing interstate potholes first, then moving on to secondary roads. If you have one you want to report, you can call 862-8750, or report it online. http://www.nashville.gov/Public-Works/Customer-Service-and-311/Services-Index-Contacts.aspx
Keep in mind they'll ask you what address or intersection the pothole is near, so have that information ready when you report it.

You've seen little kids sleep -- anywhere, anytime they're worn out: upside down, sleeping standing up or face in the spaghetti. But a new study says as we get older, good sleep gets harder to come by. In fact, nearly one in four women, by the time they reach middle age, say they're not sleeping well. Researchers found the poor sleep is usually linked to poor quality of life (things we can change), chronic illness and medication use.
STRESSORS FOR PETS AT THE HOLIDAYS...
And if your dog or cat has been acting up... sleep could be a factor there, as well! Studies have found tired pets are more likely to misbehave, and the things that keep them awake and stressed get worse at the holidays. Things like smells (PERFUME is a big one. It can smell a thousand times stronger to a dog), sound (they can hear even light bulbs), and lights including TV screens, which keep pets, and people, from sleeping soundly.
