GOVERNORS FROM ACROSS THE COUNTRY MEET IN NASHVILLE THIS WEEKEND
Before you head into downtown Nashville and wonder, "What in the world is going on?" Here's what's happening. There's a lot of extra security around, and a lot of out of state visitors, as Governors from all across the country, as well as Vice President Joe Biden, are here in Nashville for the National Governors Association summer meeting. It's a four-day event where the state leaders share ideas and best practices about issues from Medicaid to Homeland Security. Biden speaks to the group today. The Governor's meeting runs through Sunday at the Omni Hotel, downtown. 

NASHVILLE HIT SONGWRITER ARRESTED FOR PUBLIC INTOXICATION
There was a big ruckus at the Tin Roof on Demonbreun early, early, Thursday morning as a guy got drunk and disorderly. Police say he was trying to fight everyone inside the bar and was shouting obscenities and racial slurs outside. Turns out it was a Nashville songwriter who's had some pretty big success: Dallas Davidson. He wrote "Honky Tonk Badonkadonk" and others, and his ex-wife is on the TV show "Private Lives of Nashville Wives."  Davidson was arrested.

FIVE MAURY COUNTY TEENS ARRESTED FOR ARMED ROBBERIES
You know that armed robbery spree that had been going on in Maury County? Masked gunmen who hit convenience stores from Columbia to Spring Hill. Well, police have the suspects in custody. Five teenagers, ages 14, 16, 17, 18 and 19. (They were also charged in connection to the fireworks stand that was held up on July 2.)

TAYLOR SWIFT MEETS WITH SPIELBERG
It could have been just dinner, but it could be that Taylor Swift is getting ready to do a movie. Wait, another one. She has a small but crucial role in the movie The Giver, that comes out next month, and now, our Tay Tay has been seen eating dinner with Steven Spielberg and his family, and in deep conversation with Spielberg all through the meal.

Metro Schools start back Wednesday, August 6th.
Dr. Jesse Register, the director of Metro Schools says, no more bickering between metro school district leaders and charter schools. He says he wants civility, and told the Metro Council's  Education Committee    last night that the pledge of cooperation between district leaders and charter school leaders... starts NOW, and will include monthly meetings with district leaders and charter school leaders.

MT. JULIET MAN TO BE NEXT COMMANDER OF SPACE STATION
A Mt. Juliet man will be the next commander of the International Space Station. Nasa Astronaut Barry Wilmore, along with two Russian cosmonauts, will blast off for the International Space Station later this year... with Wilmore as the commander. Wilmore grew up in Mt. Juliet, graduated from UT in 1994, joined NASA in 2000 and flew on Space Shuttle Atlantis in 2009. He'll be up there till next March.  (2015).

15-YEAR-OLD CHARGED IN FATAL SHOOTING AT NATIONAL GUARD ARMORY
Police think they have the shooter in custody... from the Tennessee National Guard Armory murder in Perry County, on Wednesday. It's a 15-year-old boy. He's being held without bond in Rutherford County. The boy had been going to school in the Springfield area, but had been kicked out over a drug offense. 45 year-old Sgt Michael Braden, the man killed in the shooting, had been in the military for 27 years, twice to Kuwait.

GRANDMA SENTENCED AFTER TODDLER DRINKS METH TEA
An Oregon woman has been sentenced to 60 days in custody and ordered to stay away from her grandchildren, after the 51 year old made herself some iced tea laced with METH and her 2 year old grandbaby got into it. The little girl is okay.... but now she won't have her grandmother in her life becuase of that horrible drug.

EMMYS ANNOUNCED, SOME BIG SHOWS SNUBBED
The Primetime Emmy nominations have been announced, and HBO has the most, with 99 nominations for shows including "True Detective," that starred Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson (they were both nominated), as well as "The Normal Heart" and "Game of Thrones," which got 19 emmy nominations, the most of any series. Fargo got 18.  And what about the shows that got snubbed? NO nominations for "The Walking Dead," "The Blacklist," "Sons of Anarchy," or "The Good Wife!"

FOX FALL SCHEDULE SET WITH SIMPSONS/FAMILY GUY CROSSOVER
Fox's Fall schedule is officially set, and includes the anticipated Simpsons-Family Guy crossover... as the season premiere on Sunday night, Sept. 28th.           Although Seth MacFarlane, who created Family Guy , American Dad! and The Cleveland Show, has mentioned or parodied the Simpsons on some of his  shows before, this is the first official crossover with the Matt Groening created Simpsons. 

GARTH ANNOUNCES RECORD DEAL, WORLD TOUR
Garth Brooks is the king of 'coming right up' ... after two of those teases, he finally made his "big announcement". Garth has a new record deal, a new album later this year and will do a world tour. But.. the DATES for the world tour, he says, are 'coming right up'...lol. He says he'll announce those.. next Monday. (July 14th)

JIMMY KIMMEL CONGRATS ON NEW BABY
Congratulations to talk show host Jimmy Kimmel and his wife on their new baby! Little Jane was born yesterday.

Kim Kardashian's new video game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, is out.. and it's already a top seller. People who track such things say the Kardashian video game could generate as much as 200 MILLION dollars this year, alone. The app is free, but it has in-app purchases.

3-YEAR-OLD CANCER PATIENT BECOMES 'SHERIFF DEPUTY"
And to remind you that, no, the world hasn't gone crazy, there are acts of kindness are going on all around you, this story.
A three-year-old with cancer has been named the "nation's youngest special sheriff deputy." The Sheriff in the Indiana county where little Wyatt is being treated went to the childrens' hospital there and held a special ceremony to give Deputy Wyatt a badge and a little tiny police shirt made specially to fit him. He told the toddler his only orders, right now, are to get better. Wyatt's mom says the boy was thrilled, and uses his lttle badge to arrest the nurses, and his brothers.

OBAMA SAYS ECONOMY BOUNCING BACK
President Obama says the nation's economy is still recovering after the deep recession. At a stop in Texas yesterday, the President said we still have a long way to go, but that employers have created roughly ten-million new jobs over the past 4 years, and the housing and manufacturing sectors are up.

President Obama says most of the unaccompanied migrant children crossing the southwest border will not be able to stay in the U.S. Obama made the comments after talking with the Texas Governor and other local leaders there about the surge of unaccompanied minors across the border.

FOURTH OF JULY TRAFFIC BUSIER THAN EVER
AAA predicts the upcoming Fourth of July weekend will be busier than normal on the roadways. The agency's forecast calls for the highest number of cars on the road since 2007. AAA estimates more than 34-million people will drive at least 50 miles or more next weekend.
