OBAMA ADDRESSES NATION TODAY
President Obama will address the nation about the air campaign against ISIS in Syria this morning.  American forces and Arab allies started hitting dozens of targets overnight.  The strikes primarily centered on the city of Raqqa [[ RAWK-KAH ]], which ISIS considers the capital of its self-declared Islamic State.  

ISIS STRIKES
At least 20 ISIS targets in Syria have been hit by airstrikes conducted by the U.S. and Arab partners.  Targets included weapons supplies and buildings  used by ISIS militants.

WHITE HOUSE BREACH
Meanwhile, prosecutors say that guy who breached White House security posed a serious threat to the President. The U.S. Attorney's Office says Omar Gonzalez of Texas had 800 rounds of ammo, a pair of hatchets and a machete in his parked car a few blocks from the White House. Gonzales is being held without bond.

PERSON OF INTEREST NAMED IN ATTEMPTED MTSU STUDENT KIDNAP
Police have identified a "person of interest" in the attempted kidnapping of a student on Vanderbilt's campus early Sunday morning. They're looking for Scott Wallace  and his white 2001 Chevrolet Venture with Ohio tags. You can see his photo and more info at the link, above. 

FORMER TITANS KICKER ROB BIRONAS: NEW DEVELOPMENTS
Funeral arrangements are set for former Titans kicker Rob Bironas. Visitation is tomorrow 5 to 8pm, and the funeral Thursday at 2:30 at Woodlawn Roesch-Patton on Thompson Lane.
And new information about his death has come out... including the fact that someone called 911 to report that someone driving a car that matched the description of Bironas' ran them off the road, driving erratically. And that the night he died, his wife had filed a missing persons report. She says that around 10:30 that night, she and Rob and a friend were watching a movie, when Rob told her good night and left the room. She assumed he was going to bed. But when she went to look for him a few minutes later, couldn't find him. She called his cell, repeatedly; no answer. He just disappeared. So she called police. While they were taking the information, the call came in that he'd crashed. Now, we wait for toxicology test results. 

BOSCOS SHUTS DOWN
Boscos has shut down in Hillsboro Village. They say business had been falling off the past year and a haflf. A Cool Springs location closed earlier in the summer.

Sickweather.com is reporting that we're already seeing an uptick in allergies, fever and colds this year. 
 
WOMAN CALLS GARDENING SHOW, DISCOVERS SHE'S BEEN NURSING A POT PLANT
A woman in England got a surprising gardening lesson. Patricia Hewitson called into BBC radio show "The Potting Shed" to ask a question about a plant in her garden that she couldn't identify.  She described the plant's shape and strong odor, and the show host had to explain to the 65-year-old woman that the shrub in her yard was actually a cannabis plant.  The host informed her that the plant she had been watering for months is illegal to grow without a license, and that she should notify the authorities.

"VOICE" PREMIERES WITH NEW JUDGES
Gwen Stefani and Pharrell Williams have had their debut as judges on the new season of the "Voice." Happy singer Pharrell landed the first singer. The competition is already really strong! The blind auditions - where they just listen, and judge on voice alone - continue tonight.

VANDY SUSPENDS BIRAN KIMBROW
A Vanderbilt player, running back Brian Kimbrow, has been suspended indefinitely for what's being called conduct detrimental to the team.

NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH ENDING RESEARCH SEX BIAS 
The National Institutes of Health is ending a long-running sex bias in biomedical research.  The NIH says it'll now use  male and female animals and cells in studies conducted before clinical trials with people.  Research shows that men and women sometimes experience diseases differently and respond to treatments differently. (For years, relying heavily on male lab animals and male cells has ignored sex differences that could affect future studies of human subjects.  The NIH says that has led to flawed findings. )

MORE NASHVILLE ACTS WILL GUEST ON "NASHVILLE" NEW SEASON
Florida Georgia Line will be featured on the season three premiere of "Nashville," airing Wednesday night at 10:00 p.m. Eastern. Brad Paisley, Vince Gill, Kip Moore, and Chris Young are some of the other country stars who've made guest appearances on the show over the first two seasons.

FORMER TITANS KICKER ROB BIRONAS DIES IN CAR CRASH
         It's a sad day for Friends and fans of former Tennessee Titans kicker Rob Bironas. The 36-year-old crashed his car late Saturday night on Battery Lane in south Nashville, and was pronounced dead at Vanderbilt University Medical Center. He was reportedly just a mile away from home.

PARKING DAY
Today is PARK(ing) day, where cities around the world, including Nashville, transform parking spaces into mini parks. It's a one-day annual event to remind us to plan for more green spaces in urban areas. There are more than 30 spaces downtown that'll be transformed.

If you're drinking diet soda or eating products with artificial sweeteners, there's yet another study that says, "not good."

500 MILLION PROPOSED TO TRAIN AND ARM SYRIAN FIGHTERS
A 500 million dollar measure to train and arm up to five-thousand Syrian rebels has passed the House and is now headed to the Senate. The measure is supposed to arm the rebels so they can fight the growing ISIS threat.

LOCAL PRINCIPAL INVESTIGATED FOR SEXUAL HARASSMENT 
Justin Grimes, the principal of Springfield High School has been suspended without pay, and Robertson County school officials say he's being investigated for sexual harassment, but...

LEWIS COUNTY TEACHER IN TROUBLE
No matter how unruly the kids are in kindergarten class, you may NOT tie them to chairs. A Lewis County teacher has been disciplined for tying a 5 year old to a chair with a piece of twine earlier this month. The school says that is NOT how they do it.
