One person was killed in an officer involved shooting in Springfield late yesterday. There was a domestic dispute involving a man with a knife and that man, whose name is not yet being released, was shot and killed. The name of the officer involved has also not yet been released.

A measure that would require "family life education" to be taught in schools and be abstinence-centered has passed the Senate.  It’s sponsored by Republican Sen. Jack Johnson of Franklin. Those in favor say it's also a tool to address the state's high teen pregnancy rate, while those opposed say this issue should be "left to parents and school boards."

If your home had a mortgage that was improperly foreclosed on, a $2000 check could soon be on its way to you. A federal judge has approved a huge settlement that will make Bank of America, Citigroup, JP Morgan Chase, Wells Fargo and Ally Financial pay. In addition to the checks, the deal means millions of homeowners with troubled mortgages are eligible to become part of a loan modification pool.

Google is testing what some people may call Google Goggles.  Google calls its high-tech eye-wear "augmented reality."  The glasses can take pictures, display directions and do video chats.  They operate by voice-command.  It's not clear when the Google glasses may be sold commercially. 

Matt Lauer has sealed a new deal to stay on the TODAY show. There had been rumors Matt might be moving on.  It's not known how much Lauer's new contract worth but his current deal is a reported 17-million-dollars a year.

Small businesses are expected to have less trouble with red tape as a new law takes effect.  President Obama signed the JOBS Act yesterday at a White House ceremony. It seeks to ease regulatory burdens and make capital more available to small businesses and startup ventures.  

Republican presidential candidate Rick Santorum isn't ready to give up his White House bid.  Santorum had a meeting with conservative leaders to go over the way forward in the GOP presidential race, and the idea of Santorum dropping out did NOT come up.

Tennessee has a new law that will regulate hormone replacement clinics. Now, a physician must either administer the therapy him or herself or supervise it. And all patients must have a physical exam and give a full medical history before they start any therapy, while they must also understand the possible side effects. Channel 5 reports that also under the new law, the supervising physician must be notified immediately when any complications from the therapy are discovered. In the past, some patients have complained that they could not reach a doctor after they experienced serious side effects.

And Vanessa Williams is speaking out about the sexual ABUSE she endured as a child. The actress and singer tells "People" magazine the incident took place when she was just ten years old and staying with family friends. National statistics suggest as many as 1 in 3 in America have suffered some form of sexual abuse...

Tennessee women's basketball coach Pat Summitt has been chosen Tennessean of the Year by the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame. Summitt announced last August that she has early onset dementia - a form of Alzheimer'. The Hall of Fame said Summitt is a shining example of why Tennesseans are proud to live in the state.

A record-breaking crowd filled Bridgestone Arena on a rainy Thursday night for the last home game of the Nashville Predators' regular season where the Preds clinched no worse than a 5th seed in the NHL playoffs by beating Dallas 2-zip. It was also fan appreciation night with the team providing fans with face and hair painting to help them show their Predator Pride.

Thousands of bicycles are under a recall order on fears about falls.  The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission says the bicycles were imported by Public Bikes.  The agency says the pedals can crack and break, leading to the possibility of a fall. The new documentary Bully examines school bullying by following five kids over the course of a school year and its been viewed as an important movie to help stop bullying. But, because of language, it was given an R rating, limiting its access to anyone under 17. But now the movie’s rating has been lowered to PG-13 by removing 3 uses of expletives. The film releases next Friday... 

Kids in California's Bay Area will still be able to chow down on Happy Meals.  A San Francisco judge has dismissed a proposed class-action lawsuit surrounding McDonald's long-time, kid-oriented offering.  The suit claimed the hamburger chain was using toys to lure kids into eating nutritionally unbalanced meals.
