HOW HIGH WILL PUMP PRICES CLIMB?
Gas prices are still soaring. The national average for a gallon of regular is $3.83... that's up 7 cents in just the last week. The average price here in Nashville is a little lower... $3.64 a gallon. Analysts expect prices to keep going up at least through May... possibly as high as $4.25 a gallon.
HEALTH: STUDY LINKS WHITE RICE, DIABETES
Eating a lot of white rice could increase your chance of developing diabetes. Harvard scientists claim the risk is even higher for people in Asian countries who eat white rice several times a day. The researchers suspect that white rice contributes to diabetes risk because of its high glycemic index (64) when compared with brown rice (55), whole wheat (41), or barley (25). "In addition, white rice is the primary contributor to dietary glycemic load for populations that consume rice as a staple food," they write.
ST. PATRICK'S DUI ARRESTS UP THIS YEAR,SOBER RIDES UP, TOO
Even though a huge number of people took advantage of the Davidson County Sheriff's office's Sober Ride program this weekend -- 700 people got free rides home -- there were still some idiots on the road, driving after drinking on St. Patrick's Day. 24 people were arrested for DUI.
WORLD HEALTH ORGANIZATION WARNS ANTIBIOTICS BECOMING INEFFECTIVE
The World Health Organization says the effectiveness of antibiotics could soon be a thing of the past. They're warning that we've overused antibiotics so long that bacteria is more resistant to them, and if we keep it up even the simplest of illnesses could be fatal because we'll have no way to make them go away. (It could be especially dangerous for people with compromised immune systems such as transplant patients, and mean longer, more expensive hospital stays to fight minor infections. )
NEW AIRPORT SCREENING FOR ELDERLY
New airport screening procedures for older travelers start today at some of the country's larger airports. People over 75 can keep their shoes and light outerwear on when they go through security.
BOBBI KRISTINA DATING GUY SHE USED TO CONSIDER BROTHER
People are a little creeped out about the romantic choice Whitney Houston's daughter has made. Bobbi Kristina Brown is dating the guy she used to consider her "brother" -- Nick Gordon. He was the guy her mom UNOFFICIALLY adopted 10 years ago. (TMZ.com says Bobbi broke the news to her friends at a BBQ last week.) (And that it was pretty awkward afterward.. and everybody kept trying to change the subject.)
REPORT: DISPARITY IN DISTRICT CAPITAL SPENDING
A new report shows a sharp contrast in spending for capital projects in different parts of the city.The analysis says since 2007, District 21 that includes the Centennial Park area off West End Avenue and parts of North Nashville has gotten 51-million dollars worth of projects.... while the Old Hickory area has gotten less than ONE million. Mayor Karl Dean says his administration funds projects based on need and what best serves Davidson County taxpayers.

Nashville has just been ranked 40 out of the 50 top cities in the country for bedbugs. Nashville has a large, very busy airport, and it's thought that there's a link between travel and the little critters.

RED BULL CREATOR DIES AT AGE 80
The inventor of Red Bull has died. The Thailand native was 80. He started the drink in the 1970s and today, sales are more than 5 billion dollars a year.
HIGH SCHOOL GRADUATION UP
High school graduation rates are going up in the U.S. A new report out today from the nonprofit group headed by former Secretary of State Colin Powell shows more than 75-percent of high school students graduated on time in 2009.
