AROUND THE COUNTRY
Around the country this weekend: in Southern California, there are thousands of people stranded in their homes, in the mountains east of Los Angeles, after huge thunderstorms set of flash floods and mudslides... one man was killed when his car was swept off the road into a creek.

And in Toledo, Ohio, people are under a ban on using city tap water... because it has a toxin in it, caused by algae bloom. And water supplies are being checked in several other cities which rely on the same water sources. So far at least 500 thousand people are under a drinking water ban, and more may be added.

AMERICAN IDOL NEWS:
There's some American Idol news this morning: Dexter Roberts, who finished in seventh place on last season's American Idol, but suddenly got sick and dropped out of the Idols Live tour, now says he has Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever from a tick bite during a turkey hunting trip to Kentucky. He's started medication and should recover.

AMERICAN IDOL SEASON 7 FINALIST MICHAEL JOHNSON DIES AT 35
And American Idol finalist Michael Johns has passed away. The 35 year old died suddenly on Friday from a blood clot in his ankle. Melinda Doolittle said, "I can't express how sad I am right now. Michael Johns, rest in peace, my friend. You will be greatly missed."

AMERICAN DOCTOR WITH EBOLA BEING TREATED
An American doctor infected with Ebola is reportedly getting better, in a hospital in Atlanta. Dr. Kent Brantly contracted the deadly virus while working with an aid group in Liberia. 

COMPUTER RESEARCHER SAYS HACKERS CAN TAP INTO YOUR PERSONAL THROUGH USB DEVICES
Another way hackers can get into your computer! A leading computer researcher says hackers can tap into personal computers through USB devices: those things you plug into your computers like keyboards, thumb-drives and your mouse. He's telling computer security professionals all about it at a hacking prevention conference in Vegas.

EARLY VOTING IN DAVIDSON CO. AT RECORD LEVEL. ELECTION DAY THURS
Officials say a record number of people in Davidson County voted early for the upcoming election.  More than 30-thousand people cast ballots before early voting closed Saturday.  On Thursday, state primaries and county general elections will be held.

UNRULY PASSENGER CAUSES FLIGHT DIVERSION TO NASHVILLE
An unruly passenger forced an American Airlines flight to make an emergency landing at the Nashville Airport.  The plane was on its way to boston when a woman allegedly ran toward the cockpit door, then punched a flight attendant who tried to stop her. No word yet on why she got all catywompus.

GM OWNERS TOLD
If you checked online to see if your GM vehicle was involved in a recall because of a faulty ignition switch, and saw your car was not affected, check again. GM's website says it had been incorrectly telling some owners their cars weren't on the recall list, when they really are. 

CALIF FAMILY CREATES FACEBOOK PAGE TO WARN ABOUT SYNTHETIC POT AFTER THEIR TEEN DIES
The family of a California teenager who died after smoking synthetic pot, has started a facebook page and is encouraging families to have 'the talk' with their kids about Spice or K2. The man-made marijuana is becoming more popular with kids and is often easy for them to get. 

TAYLOR SWIFT: 'PEOPLE WOULDN'T LISTEN TO MY SONGS IF THEY WEREN'T HEARTBROKEN'
In an interview this weekend, Taylor Swift said even though she gets some grief about writing about her breakups, that the heartbreak songs are what her fans expect. Taylor says she believes people wouldn't listen to her songs if they weren't about true emotions. Her next big thing is a role in the movie "The Giver" which opens August 15th.

GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY SETS $94M RECORD, LUCY #2
At the box office this weekend, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy earned 94 million dollars, setting a record for an August opening. Next was LUCY, and then the James Brown bio, Get On Up, in third place

BACK TO SCHOOL WEEK, SCHOOL ZONES BACK, PHOTOS BACK ONLINE
There may be lots of nerves this week as school starts, lots of tears, hesitation, little hands clinging, not wanting to let go. And that's just the moms and dads!
Metro Schools start Wednesday, some other local school districts have already started. Police are reminding you to just PAY ATTENTION to the school zones you drive through each day, and slow down.
And, a side note: be kind to all the parents who are posting first day of school photos online... the first day, or the first day of the last year, only comes once. For most of us.
