ROADS MOSTLY CLEAR
We were very fortunate today, and metro did a great job salting the roads ahead of time. The interstates were mostly clear when most of us woke up, though there MAY be some slick spots on SECONDARY roads.
The trouble seems to be getting to the interstates. Someone posted on Facebook that he stepped out onto his back deck to let the dogs out and his SHOES froze to the ice and snow on his deck. lol. So, be ready for the slick stuff at your house, and maybe on your residential street.

WARMING UP, GETTING STARTED
Stores are stocking back up today. People freaked out a little this weekend, and emptied out store shelves. But, laugh if you will: those people don't have to go out today for those things. Tennessee is, officially, under a state of emergency and we're being asked NOT to leave the house unless we just HAVE to.

TONIGHT EVEN COLDER
Tonight is supposed to get even colder, down to 2 degrees overnight... so all those things you did to get ready for last night, leaving the water dripping, making sure outdoor pets have shelter and water that's not frozen, and unhooking the water hoses from  your house... will be even more important to remember.

WARMING SHELTERS OPEN AND NEED DONATIONS
Not everyone can just turn up the heat or put another blanket on the bed when it gets this cold. Some people in Nashville don't have a warm place to go, so there are warming shelters open in several cities, including Clarksville and Nashville, and they're taking care of record numbers of people. If you want to help, they can alsays use food, blankets, hygiene products so the folks there can take a hot shower, or cash, so they can buy what they need to take care of all those people. Local places helping people keep warm include Room at the Inn, the Salvation Army and the Second Presbyterian Church in Green Hills. They expect even more people tonight, as the temperatures continue to drop.

TENNESSEE UNDER STATE OF EMERGENCY

FLU SEASON PEAKING EARLY
And if you've avoided the flu so far, if you can stay away from crowds for a little longer, you may be okay.. Experts say the flu season is peaking early.  The good news: that means the worst of the season will be over with soon. The BAD news: now is the most dangerous time to be around crowds. Even if you have gotten a flu shot, you could still get a mild case of the flu, and you can still spread it to people with compromised immune systems. If you have to be around a lot of people right now, and even if you have gotten a shot, you should still be washing your hands often with plenty of soap.
