FREE FLU SHOTS AVAILABLE AT COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENTS
Just any day now, you're probably going to know someone who has the flu.. and if you haven't had your flu shot yet, you're not protected. As the flu cases rise, the health department is taking action, and says you can go to any Davidson county health department and get the vaccination for free. They say it’ll do more good in peoples’ systems than on the shelf.

WAFFLE SHOP TRADITION TODAY
For 87 years, always on the first Thursday of December, the people at the historic  Downtown Presbyterian Church, have hosted what they call The Waffle Shop. For $7, you get a homemade waffle breakfast, coffee or tea and live music. The food is served from 11 till 2, or until they run out of waffle batter.. And people have been lining up, down the sidewalk and  around the corner for years to get it. It's become a Christmas tradition. The money they raise goes to the church's ministry for homeless people. Demetria Kalodemos and  Gail Kerr will be there serving up food, and there'll be live music.

WE’RE GETTING CARELESS AT THE HOLIDAYS WITH OUR CARS
When you leave your car do you lock it? Every time? And if I were a thief just walking by, could I look into your car and see a GPS? A laptop? CDs? Your purse?
Police say we often get careless at the holidays, because we’re rushed and plan to ‘just run in’ somewhere. Unless you can afford it…and it’s noo problem if someone steals your stuff, you want to be extra vigilant this time of year, with crooks looking for every opportunity.
60% of all the cars stolen last week in Nashville, had the keys left in them, or accessible. Police say lock your car, secure your valuables and take the keys.

GRIEF DURING THE HOLIDAYS
Some people have a hard time at the holidays. It's not a very happy time for them. Either they've lost someone this time of year, or all the the traditions we have remind them of someone they've lost. I have a friend who drove around town with a picture of her late husband in the passenger seat of her car. They always did their Christmas shopping together, and it helped her not miss him so much. Well if you're having a hard time, there may be a strategy that can help YOU feel better. A local non-profit, Alive Hospice, is holding two free meetings tonight, called "Grief During the Holidays." One in Nashville and one in Murfreesboro. They're free, but you DO need to pre-register.
(You can do that online or by calling Alive Hospice. Murfreesboro seminar: 6 to 7:30 p.m. First Presbyterian Church, 210 N. Spring St., Murfreesboro. RSVP by calling 907-1677 or online at http://alivegriefsupportservices.eventbrite.com)

Reserachers have fouind that Dogs are surprisingly adept at sniffing out lung canceroffering hope for earlier, life-saving diagnosis. "Dogs have no problem identifying tumour patients," said Peter Errhalt, head of the pulmonology department at Krems hospital in northern Austria, one of the authors of the study.
